The Census is very important to know how many people are registered in a town and according to it, the Town hall will also receive grants from the main government in order to improve services in town as: Local Police, doctors, cleaning, lighting and infrastructure. More people being registered, more money will be available with the various grants given to the Town Hall for these services.

Foreigners living in Estepona have to register at the Census Department if they live at least 180 days a year. You cannot be registered in two Towns at the same time.

Apart from improving the services in the Town hall, the fact to be registered will entitle a citizen to receive the following benefits:

• IBI (local tax) will be reduced by 20%, and could reach up to 80% per annum.
• Exemption on the refuse collection for citizen who meet the conditions of the Tax authorities.
• Register at the health Centre and apply for a doctor if required (with the blue International card).
• Register your children at school.
• Purchase a car/property.
• Apply for the 65 years old Card in order to get discounts in bus pass, glasses, Tele assistance for people who are ill, alone or who need special assistance (to get this card, the certificate of Residence is also required).
• Eu Citizen to be allowed to vote in Municipal elections and also be elected Candidate .

If you wish to register in the Census, we can inform you at the Foreign Resident Department (Tourist office) with the following documents:

• Passport or Identity card.
• NIE number or Certificate.
• Title Deeds or rental contract.
• Utility Bills as (electricity, telephone or water).

Application can be done in Puertosol or at Cancelada.
